Establishing your SMSF Investment Strategy Goals

Your fund's overall objective is to invest its assets in a way that secures and builds the retirement funds available to each member. It's a good idea for your fund's Trustee to establish benchmark goals for the fund.

For example, if your fund's investment goal is to achieve average returns of 5%, you'd look for a property capable of delivering that return.

Different investments lend themselves to different scenarios. 'You' might want to invest in a property in [suburb x], but it could be better suit your SMSF investment strategy to consider an apartment in [suburb y].

What is the nature of your members other investments?

If your other members have investments in shares, for example, then using your SMSF to invest in property provides an opportunity to diversify 'their' portfolio.
